We had a lot of Squirrels and Beavers on our joining list so we held a taster session to gauge interest in starting a second Squirrel Drey and restarting our Forest Beaver Colony on a Monday at Primrose Hill School.
The Cub Sixers and Seconders camped overnight in Aylburton Memorial Hall.
A few of the Cub Packs in the Forest went to Apple Orchard for an Autumn District Cub Camp. It was a bit cold, but the Cubs seemed to have a good time.
We took the opportunity to get a last Survival Friday in for 2024 on the last Friday in August. It was a pleasant evening of stories and brews. Most of the scouts stayed up all night, some tried tea for the first time. Some spotted a Starlink satellite train.
Our new Squirrels Drey have been meeting at primrose Hill School, to help the team settle into the routine. For the last meeting this summer we went down to the Deerpark for shelter-building and toasted marshmallows. They had a great time.
Our Cubs had a great time at Evolution over at Circencester Park. Another cracking weekend camp organised by the Gloucestershire S&E Team.
A great weekend for Strategy for our scouts. They returned tired, but happy after a weekend of incident hike around Cirencester Park on Saturday and adventure activities on Sunday.
Scouts had a delightful evening on the Wye up from the Symonds Yat rapids on Monday, developing their skills in preparation for a day paddle in September.
Scouts took part in the first “Survival Friday” since 2018 on Friday night. They have to build a tarp shelter, sleep in it, light a wood fire, and cook breakfast.
